On July 12, 2019, the fourth advanced training course on cell culture process and bioreactor engineering came to an end at East China University of Science and Technology. More than 120 participants from more than 60 enterprise units and research institutes from all over China participated in this course training.

The Advanced Training Course on Cell Culture Process and Bioreactor Engineering is jointly organized by the Animal Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory of the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering and Shanghai BioEngine Sci-Tech Co., Ltd. The lecturer team of this course consists of Prof. Wei-Shou Hu from the University of Minnesota, Prof. Tan Wensong, director of Animal Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory East China University of Science and Technology/ chairman of Shanghai BioEngine Sci-Tech Co., Ltd, and Dr. Zhou Weichang, Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Wuxi Biologics Co., Ltd. The course also invited Dr. Bin Wang, Director of the National Engineering Laboratory of Therapeutic Vaccines, Dr. Liqun Wang, President of Fosun Kite Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Senior Engineer Hui Hu, Standing Committee Member of Pudong New Area Science Association and Vice President of Pudong New Area Science Volunteer Association, to give lectures as guest speakers.

The three-day course was tightly scheduled and full of practical information, with each lecturer striving to deliver their latest research results in the shortest possible time. The course content covered both basic theoretical knowledge of cell biology and cell physiology in process engineering, and also studied and discussed specific problems in practical applications. Combined with the current situation of biopharmaceutical and virus vaccine industries, this course provides an in-depth interpretation of key engineering issues in the cell culture process, and lectures and discussions on more than 20 topics such as cell culture process analysis technology (PAT), design of animal cell culture medium, cell culture process scaling up and down, design and development of serum-free medium for recombinant protein and virus vaccine production process.

During the class, the lecturers' wonderful lectures drove the students to study carefully, think positively, and ask questions on time; during the tea break, the students discussed and exchanged experiences with the lecturers on the problems they encountered in their work. Although the time was tight and the task was heavy, every participant was fully engaged in the course learning and exchange.
